What a fun book!
This book is written for kids in a simplistic, sometimes comedic, and easy to read form. There are pictures of many of his works, and the authors talk about everything from the artist's life to his style, subjects, and color choices! Granted, many of these musings are brief, but it is definitely enough to get any child seeing the world of art in full color!

Loved it!
I purchased this book to introduce my child (years old) to famous artists. I personally love Van Gogh. I thought the book was a great introduction. It speaks from a young student's perspective and is written as a report for his teacher. The book was informative and funny. It had cute pictures and helps kids relate to artists as some of the book, the student reporter relates his family to Van Gogh's upbringing. It also poses questions that kids (or anyone) might naturally have about Van Gogh (Why did he cut off his ear?). I definitely think it was worth it, and even better, my daughter loved it too. We read it together and talked a little about it throughout the reading. I also purchased a puzzle of Van Gogh's sunflowers to work on together, unfortunately the puzzle was a little too difficult for us to do together (1000 pieces) but a good gesture anyway.

Great book
Very well written book for young readers. We learned a lot. Interesting format. Looks like a book report a kid wrote. Lots of facts and pictures of the artist and their paintings.

Gogh for it!
I wanted something to spark my 6YO son's interest in art. This book sure did. He asked me to read it to him a 2nd time right on the spot. He also spotted a Van Gogh print that I brought home. This is a fine series. I also got the Degas which wasn't quite as interesting but he still liked it. I just ordered Picasso and a few others. Get the Van Gogh and if your child loves it, try some of the others. (I also liked that this mentioned Van Gogh was very depressed once at loving a woman who didn't love him back.)

I love that this book can connect with adults and children ...
I would give this 10 stars if I could. You would be doing yourself and your children a favor by purchasing this! I learned more than what I thought I knew, and my 8 year old ate it up. I love that this book can connect with adults and children alike. A must buy for anyone wanting to expand their children's knowledge of an incredible painter!

I spent a bit of time looking about for a book on Van Gogh for my 5 year old. He's taken an interest in art and I wanted something which could give info in a way kids can understand without skirting around the reality. This is BRILLIANT! It not only gives the child an understanding of the type of art Van Gogh did but also a history of his life, family, illness and death. It is written and presented in a way that children will understand and appreciate.
