A good entry in the Ar Tonelico series with action battles and likeable characters
I would have probably given this game 5 stars as I like it a lot but I will try to be as objective as possible as people have different tastes and this game is not perfect. This is Gust's (which are probably more famous for the Atelier series) first action rpg in the Ar Tonelico series, which started on ps2 with two installments. The story is your typical Jrpg with some technical terms specific to this series, and which are explained in the game. The characters for the most part are likeable but most dialogue lines are not voiced in English but they are in Japanese and they take place in 2D visual-novel like fashion and there are a lot to read in this game.At first I played a little of this game then left it to play another game, which seemed more appealing at the time. Many months later, after I played and loved Ar Nosurge Ode to an Unborn Star, I decided to give this game another chance and I was pleassantly surprised. The game battles has a gimmick which may apeal to some as it involves stripping your heroines if you fulfill certain conditions during battles but the best thing I like about the game are exploring the heroines emotions by diving into their psyches and exploring them and romancing them. The game has a very good replayability value as there are three routes you can take and you don't have to start the game from the very beginning if you don't want to; you just need to be at a certain point and make separate save files. Another thing I find satisfying is item creation especially equipment and experiencing their perfomance in battles. The 3D character models seem a bit outdated but I got used to them and they grew on me. If you have a ps3 and want an action Jrpg with good likeable characters, nice music, psyche exploration, multiple romancing routes and an action battle system, I recommend giving this game a chance

Pretty Good
It was very unique in design to me as there are multiple endings, but you can't actually tell that on a first playthrough. And part of it involves 'diving' into two of the characters to fix their psychological issues (Finnel looks down on herself harshly which apparently makes everything in her mind try to torture her and is pretty dark and on platforms, Saki's mind is more like a fairy tale book which gets destroyed and is essentially rebuilt in different ways each level and Tyria's is more like a memory bank and she doesn't actually have issues, you just follow the lives of one of the characters in it in an interactive manner to learn the truth of her past). However, you don't necessarily actually have to do so with any of them past the first one with Finnel which is storyline related, you can just go about killing things as you wish and continuing storyline as you wish. The storyline is pretty interesting, though I wouldn't recommend this to anyone under 16 in truth because the girls remove their clothes right down to their underwear as part of the battle system and there are a few adult themes touched on.
