I used to always purchase the Samsung brand because I didn't want to take a chance on water filters which are important to me and my family. I was forced to change when vendors would not ship the Samsung filter to Hawaii any longer. Well, I can't thank them enough for forcing me to try an alternative that is just as good, in terms of fit and taste, as the brand name filter.Samsung says that you shouldn't use other filters because they may "may damage your fridge and water filter housing, or break off and leave pieces of the filter inside". The ICEPURE fit my fridge perfectly.Samsung says that they use a high-grade carbon block that removes over 99.9% of the harmful contaminants present in your water. ICEPURE is in the business of making water filters. These particular water filters are NSF 42 and 372 certified. NSF 42 means that filters are certified to reduce aesthetic impurities such as chlorine and taste/odor. NSF 372 establishes a limit on the amount of lead that may be contained within the filter (the filter itself is "lead free"). ICEPURE also makes a pro version with additional certifications that remove impurities (e.g., lead, benzene, and fluorinated organic compounds) from your water supply. I couldn't find any information on NSF certifications for the Samsung brand on their website, although NSF is stamped on the label. I didn't have my old Samsung box any longer so maybe someone may know more for comparative purposes.The bottom line is that if you want to trust someone, you trust a third-party to certify their product. ICEPURE has taken the time to achieve NSF certifications which requires regular testing. The water tastes good and they are a cost effective alternative to Samsung.
