Well constructed
A beautifully constructed tool. It is sharp. I think I'll like it better once it dulls a bit so that the girdling causes a bit more damage so that the bark does not heal as quickly.

Not good
The tip of this was so thinly shaved that it was flexible like aluminum foil. Three short drags on thin tree bark and it was completely dulled and can't cut anything now.

Works to girdle invasive trees
Fast and easy to use. I often girdle Chinese Parasol trees and Mimosa trees and apply 25% glyphosate solution to the exposed xylem/phloem to prevent resprouting from the roots. Girdling trees creates standing dead trees that are a potential hazard or a future "blowdown" on a trail. I only use the method deeper in the woods, away from trails and frequented areas. I am always uncomfortable when I am working in an area with standing dead trees (dead falls).
