Great resource for beginners
I recently changed jobs to a function that uses EDI. This book isn’t highly technical, but it does give an overview of how EDI works to make diving into standards easier to digest. My predecessor retired and took with him 35 years of experience. I was asked to backfill his role with no experience after a job posting led to zero applicants. This is a great start and I’ll definitely pass it along to the person who ends up replacing me when the time comes.

It's all in the details....
I assisted business managers in EDI on-boarding of my employer (a Fortune 100 company) companies government contract accounts. I was then told I would be promoted to an EDI Analyst position, that I had no idea of what it would entail. Walking in blindly, following my leaders, who gave me the EDI Basics book helped explain. This book was helpful in explaining in more detail, adding to what I have learned since I began this position July of 2017. There is not much "layman" books out there to help those like me, learn about this process very quickly.

Very Light on details
I was hoping it would be an EDI 101 book, but realized it was only EDI 021.Not a great value for money.

Good introduction to EDI
Prior to reading the book, I knew next to nothing about EDI; after having read the book, I have a much better grasp of the subject matter. Also, I am inspired to learn more and to possibly enter the field.

Incredible passion
The passion for EDI shown in this book exceeds what the subject matter probably deserves, but I thought it was really excellent. Every book should be like this. The writing is a bit stream-of-consciousness with random side-comments thrown in but that adds to the book's charm really, and makes the drier sections very readable. It takes a few hours to read and is probably best read at the start of an EDI project or when you just want general background, or possibly if you've got a few EDI interfaces working (or supported them) but always felt knowing the whole subject more generally would be helpful (my situation). One thing for non US-readers to be aware of is that the book is focussed on the X12 format, and covers EDIFACT only slightly. As I learned from the book, X12 is the most common in the US but EDIFACT is most popular worldwide. TRADACOMS is deprecated but still used in the UK and barely gets a mention.
