One of the Best Books Out There on Survival and Also Great For a Camping Manual Too!
One of the best books out there unless you're a beginner in the world of outdoor adventuring. It explains a lot of things that you should know about being in a wilderness environment, but there are things you should already be proficient in before using this manual. One of these things is how to properly use and maintain a knife. Among other things that would be good is not to be afraid to kill and gut an animal for food because you think it's gross. You should also have some working knowledge in wood and rope work to make those sections easier to use.You probably don't have to set up your "KIT" 100% the way he has it in the book depending on the places you go and it would help you to be aware of these as well before hand.I must say I have actually learned some useful information from this book and I've been an outdoors person since I was a kid. Survival isn't for the weak as they say and you also need to be mentally prepared to be useful in any emergency situation if you expect to get out alive. That being said, I have pushed myself beyond comfortable limits to test my resolve and I guess that's why I became a firefighter, because I knew I could handle that kind of stress. So I recommend this book to any adventurer who wants to learn more than they know at the present time!Good Luck and Godspeed, danofiremano

Great Book! Perfect Size For Backpacking!
Great book and the perfect size for your backpack or bugout bag. This title has gone out of print - so they are becoming harder and harder to find at a reasonable price. I sure wish they would reprint this title, as it is perfect for every survivalist, prepper, bushman, or camper. If you can't find a copy, at least get the SAS Survival Handbook (heavier and bulkier) to study. My recommendation would be to get both, if possible - each contains information the other doesn't. The SAS Survival Handbook is good for home study, or base camp - and the SAS Survival Guide is good for your pack for reference. Very useful, and potentially life-saving information. Highly recommended.

SAS Survival Guide (ISBN 13: 978-0-06-199286-5): A Step Up
Someone gave me an older version of John Wiseman's "SAS Survival Guide" about a year ago. I read the entire book in a couple of settings (384-pages). It's a step up from the average every-day-over-the-counter-outdoor-book, touching a pretty high note if you're into serious outdoor adventures or survival stuff. The book measures about 3.25-inches by 4.5-inches by .75-inches thick; very compact (fit-in-your-hip-pocket-compact).Wiseman uses....message headlines... on every page, one idea per page (which makes it easy to read), and he cross-references pages for additional information. Pictures too. Examples: The section on finding and gathering water is very well written, and the section on plants (edible plants and plants to avoid), includes color drawings.I bought two books. An extra copy for myself and one for a friend. The package came from The Book Depository in Gloucester, UK so be patient because the 2 to 3 day delivery option may not apply.

The one to get if you want it in your BOB [ and have fairly decent vision :) ]
This is a great resource for a Bug Out Bag, or for general reading. Lots of survival ideas covering a wide range of conditions. Print is very small, as others have said, but it is a Pocket Guide. The 'iPhone app' seems to also be available for purchase on Android, and which covers a similar (but smaller) set of ideas. The app also have a new discussion on urban survival guide that is also very interesting.

Great Information.
This book took forever to get here. It was ordered May 15th and the arrival dates I was sent were May 20-June 5. It arrived June 7th. I have never had to wait that long for a delivery, and there was no tracking number to find it. The book has the information I was looking for. However I did not realize it would be the pocket edition, so will get my magnifying glass out to read it for my old eyes. Otherwise the book has all the information I was looking for.

Great Info, handy and TINY yet will buy more
Great Info, handy and TINY. I'd buy another copy it it was 5 1/2 by 8. Or even 8 x 10: it would still fit in most backpacks at that size. More readable size and waterproof pages would be worth the expense for this great info. Even so, I will probably buy 2 more of this exact tiny edition as gifts.

Wonderful!
Very useful book! I've only had it for two days and so far I've already made dandelion coffee and identified a few other edible plants. It is a must have for any Bear Grills wanna be, or even just an adventurous spirit.I would recommend also getting the larger version as this one can be hard to read at times, but at the same time probably better for taking with you. So all in all I would probably recommend you buy both this book and the bigger version, as they both have their differences and seem to comete each other.

Outdoor Bible!
This is a must have for any trekkers or primitive campers! The book was surprisingly small but is loaded with important information. The compact size allows for easy packing and makes being in the outdoors even funner and safer than ever. The advanced first aid and foraging information made me want to head for the hills. Take the kids and have a fun and educational scavenger hunt! The survival techniques are a blast to practice and the description of all the wild edible plants turns any backyard into a kitchen. Don't leave home without it!

Learn to improvise and survive...
Great book. Having said that, I spent a few months going through the fire starting chapter and found that some of it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt until you actually try it. I tried the "bow + string" method of trying to start a fire, and found that it's probably one of the most difficult ways to start a fire (see you tube vids of people failing miserably). On a brighter note, he covers other methods that work better if you don't have a firestarter/spark generator to hand. With that in mind, the book should probably be viewed more from a "how to improvise and survive" manual rather than a "this is exactly the way to survive" as then the scope of the book becomes clear and you'll start to apply the knowledge outside of the defined scenarios in the chapters and gain more value. For example, I failed to see the importance of the knot tying chapter until I realised that you could improvise snow chains with 10mm nylon rope and then it dawned on me that you needed to apply the right kind of non-slip knot to ensure that it didn't come off.

Fantastic pocket-sized guide to wilderness survival
It is amazing how much information has been condensed in this pocket-sized guide. It covers all the most important topics and is presented in a very professional fashion with easy-to-understand illustrations describing various animals and procedures. Possibly one of the best survival guides I have read and small enough to fit in your back pocket. Great buy!

i love this book!
having read a few so called survival/outdoor books (ray mears bush craft is a good one) i thought i would give this one a go as it has lots of positive reviews. i ordered the gem sized version on the basis i can always have it on me when i go wandering, im glad i did. i have never read such a comprehensive guide on survival techniques and living off the land. every page is useful and covers everything from how to use a rope without a harness to which plants you can eat and everything else in between. the chapters are clearly defined and there is so much detail you will find yourself referring back to them. even after reading it if i lost my copy i would replace it without hesitation. well done lofty!!

best survival book and very compact
The size is perfect to take with you on the trip, very useful information not just for survival, but for any camper and hiker too.really great book, easy to understand text and pictorial instructions and drawings.Generally one of the best survival guide books i had, as its so compact it can fit in my hip pocket on my trousers, i have the papercover version in my emergency kit always with me on a tripand a kindle version at home. From choosing your gear to 1st aid, this book contains everything you need to know even if you would find yourself in a long term survival situation where you would have to spend months away from civilization.I highly recommend both this book and the Urban survival book from this author.

Essential handy guide for truely wild camping/living off the land
Essential handy guide for truly wild camping/living off the land in a wide variety of environments. Easy to understand diagrams and instructions. Ideal size for keeping with you - a waterproof paper version would be ideal, which would make this safe to use in all weather. Ideal to read before planning outdoor activities especially if you are going to teach/practice shelter making or wish to travel very light with just a bivvie bag. Also includes information on making open fires, ovens and cooking utensils/appratus to dry cloths, cook food etc...I always try something new when on camping trips as regular Practice is essential to keeping your skills fresh - good fun to :)
