Great information!
This book is easy to understand. It explains what mind mapping is and how to create it for yourself. The book is superbly organized. Each chapter flows into the next while showing the reader exactly how to mind map. Highly recommended!

A MUST BEFore buying or installing Windows 8
Whenever Mr. Rathbone does a dummy on something it is well worth reading what he's written. I bought and returned the Microsoft SURFACE(and should have read his Dummies book on Windows 8 before buying). Rathbone cautions his readers that know what you are doing when you decide to venture into Microsoft's new program. If you have Windows 7 Professional he says you might want to keep it in your computer. If you decide you have to have Windows 8 he says--make sure you know which way you should install Windows 8. One way you keep most of what you have in your present software; simply loading Windows 8 will probably make you pull your hair out(or in my case scratch your hairless top). Rathbone is coming out with a Dummies book on Microsoft's SURFACE in February. In the meantime Microsoft has already come out with a new version--this one with Windows 8 and not Windows RT. So if you decide to go into Windows 8 with the SURFACE you will have to hope that Rathbone's book on the SURFACE will cover the new machine, or you can buy his Windows 8 now. Cheers. I'm sticking with Windows 7 Professional for now.

Easy to follow, practical
I haven't yet finished with the book by far means, but all I can say, it will be a very good reference book as I find it easy to jump from chapter t chapter randomly and still get a lot out of it.It is clearly written and very logical. The pictures are helpful, too. Perhaps I'll write more later. I was already inspired to write my first mind map. I did it by hand and it was much, much faster than what I did on my Mac. I downloaded iMindMap, which is a very nice software and I'll probably use it for presentations but for my own use, I'll stick to handwriting and drawing. Worth buying.

There is not even 1 full-color example in the entire book.😑
On the cover it says “Full color images”. (Color is a key component of mind maps.) There isn’t even one colored illustration anywhere in the book.😑

Excellent learning tool
I have read several books on Mind Mapping but still didn't feel like there was anything for me in it. However, a lot of other techniques I'm studying suggest it as a great tool, so I ordered this book. At last, a book that made concrete suggestions about how to practice and get comfortable with the process, especially when studying complex technical books or taking notes at meetings. I'm really getting used to using it. Two Thumbs Up!

Mind Mapping is a Movement
This is probably the best book I've seen so far on the practical use of Mind Mapping for note taking. This is something you have to practice to discover its value. They even had a section on choosing a good Mind Mapping software solution. I believe eventually we will be seeing more and more of this technique in practical use in school and business. So be an early adopter in this movement. This is a good book to start with.

it is a good book if you want to use Mind Mapping in the real life
The book guides you to the daily use of the mental mapping and it covers too the 2 main computer applications that runs this kind of software. Like all the other for dummies books, it is always useful and funny.Great one.

Great book - great technique.
I had just heard of Mind Mapping and bought this book because the Dummies series has never let me down. I read through the book doing the exercises. I thought - this might be a great way to prepare a sermon! And I had my sermon written on Monday instead of at the last minute. For someone like me who is a visual learner this is a great technique.

A Dummy or a Mug?
A complete and utter waste of money. The contents of this book that actually deal with how to engage in Mind Mapping could be condensed into a much smaller book (or even a Mind Map). Much of the book is filled with padding, that is, information that at best has only a tangential link to Mind Mapping. Worse still, the book contains a chapter (no less than 65 pages!) on how to use Mind Mapping softwear for your computuer. This information is redundant if you dont have any of these softwear packages; and even if you do have the softwear, wouldn't guidance on how to use them come with each softwear package? The chapter comes across as nothing but a cynical attempt to plug Mind Mapping softwear to those who, like me, were 'dummy' enough to buy this book in the first place. Save your money, and go for something else out there on the subject. This book is not actually written by Tony Buzan (he provides a Forward for it). The writer is Florian Rustler, described as a 'Mind Mapping trainer'. We are told that Rustler was introduced to Mind Mapping at school by a teacher, an introduction that took all of 10 minutes, which he followed up by reading Tony Buzan's book on Mind Mapping (the title of which is not provided), and this book enabled him to 'apply the Mind Mapping technique'. Did he apply it effecitvely? Did Mind Mapping contribute significantly to business success or academic achievement? Surprisingly, we are not told this. All we are told of Mr. Rustler is that he went on to become a Mind Mapping tutor, runs courses, and published an on-line Mind Mapping course. My advice? If you want a book on Mind Mapping, then you would do better to go for the Mind Mapping book READ by Mr. Rustler, rather than the one written by him.If this book is typical of the '....For Dummies' series, then this will be my last purchase from among the long, and growing list of titles available in the genre. I may be a Dummy, but I am no mug!

Mind Mapping for Dummies
I have to say that I do not like the mind map display style in the book - but having said that there is very comprehensive coverage for many mind mapping applications. A quick glance at the table of contents reveals: cribs for lectures and presentations, taking notes from texts and books, taking notes from presentations and discussions, project management and knowledge management. There are also chapters on visualising information, generating mind maps and why mind mapping works. Also a chapter on the different mind mapping software as well as a section on comparing software packages, and chapters with tips on how to use them to get the display information you want. Also it includes advanced strategies for mind mapping: including, for students, generating a mind map from different sources, preparing for exams, and revising. There is an interesting chapter on mind mapping for creativity using a software package. The book ends with ten tips for working efficiently with mind mapping, e.g. using the right paper, writing in capitals, developing mind maps outwards and not writing vertically and generating master copies (using software). All in all a good coverage for both hand and software mind mapping, but the display style really looks too childish and time consuming to produce.
