Is it sturdy enough so that it won't bend if place on grass or does it need a perfectly flat surface?

the dot2dance works perfectly on any surface! I use my dot2dance on the grass in my backyard and it doesn't bend or slide!

What size is best for Ballet dancers?

It is a matter of preference really and if you are taking it with you to dance competitions and conventions or just leaving it at home. If it is to stay at home the ENORME SIZE really creates that Home Dance Studio feel and provides the Dance Floor area. If it is to practice En Pointe and break those new Pointe shoes in, a PETITE SIZE is plenty. A dancer is more challenged to keep “their center” the smaller the dot2dance and the circle design also aids in “spotting”. By far our most popular size we sell the most of is a GRANDE SIZE. It is still very portable at about 12 pounds and 32 inches but provides a good amount of Dance Floor for more movements and those traveling feet.
