great product and really will run for 45-60 minutes.
very good product. I had quite a bit of shredding to do and this handled it without any issues. I had three 45 minute sessions and the machine worked like a charm. Now it sits next to the desk and handles the shred timely. I had some issue at about 10 pages, but if I kept it to less than 10 I had no issues. it had minor jams maybe 4 times in all that shredding. I would recommend this for everyday and for those who like to clean out bank and investment statements a little less frequently. One warning, the container is fairly small and if you overfill it, it pretty much explodes out of the container and you have a mess. I have had to vacuum after each empty. Other than that, no complaints.

Works for hours on end but...
Update: a credit card caused a jam that can't be fixed (was inside a paper and went in wrong slot but that is no excuse - yes I know there is a separate spot for that you'd say, however, this thing is clearly not built to last as anyone can accidentally put an item in the wrong place without realising it like we did. Keep in mind this ADVERTISES that credit cards are no problem but that is what ruined it). Now this machine just makes noise and there is no way to clear the jam by reversing or putting gears forward. Can't shred anything at all. Also, this thing can really only shred 5-6 papers max at a time or it jams and we've tried that many times (they claim 14 LOL). This machine is also has another flaw. The door has a hook or plastic sticking straight out that is apparantly used to prevent the machine from turning on unless the bin is pushed it (good idea but wrong location). The problem is the hook tears all garbage bags. Why use a grabage bag? To avoid getting papers and dust everyhwhere! That on top of the fact the bin holds only about a foot of paper so it fills up so fast you spend a ridiculous amount of time changing bags. This machine is NOT worth buying. Save the money and buy another one (sorry still haven't found one I can recommend). This machine works for hours and you can put all kinds of paper, paper clips, staples and credit cards in there with no problem. It did not overheat for 2-3 hours straight with constant feeding. However, there are some cons you should be aware of:1) it is too short and you will have to constantly change bags if you do a lot of2) it cannot handle more than 5-6 sheets at a time (8 or so max and that is if they are thin)3) makes an awful amount of dust4) prone to jamming at 8+ sheets (no where near the stated claim of 14)Overall if you're looking for a machine to shred a lot of papers I'd suggest a larger one (Royal 1840M has pleased many at $175)), but if you don't want to spend the money this one gets the job done. Dust is not unique to this machine, so just add a plastic bag. The biggest concern is the fact you have to separate papers and can't just shred 10-20 at a time, or it will jam. I had dozens of jams with under 10 papers as you must keep in mind some are thicker than others. I have to knock a star off because this machine simply cannot do 14 sheets, not even close. I'd avoid this machine and buy a more expensive one with a larger bin capacity and the ability to actually shred more papers at once. Yes this runs for hours but you will there for hours dividing your papers so the thing doesn't jam, which is a waste of your time.

SECURITY, EASY OPERATION, NICE FEATURES
Just received my shredder and am pleased with it. Cuts pretty quietly. Has nice features ..reverse button, on/off button, ready button, forward button, as well as overheat button. The castors make it easy to move around as it is fairly heavy. I have included pics of the size of the cut pieces and the operation manual. Be sure to look for the manual on the box, not in the box. It is in a clear envelope that has the address sticker on it. It is behind the invoice/receipt. You can remove the bin easily without removing the top (great feature).

I am disappointed in this product.
This model jams often and it is not easy to clear the jam. I use it on no more than 6 sheets at a time.

Works well. A little slow but totally acceptable.

Reasonable Priced Light Duty Shredder
I use this shredder to shred client personal data as i finish my projects, 200 to 300 pages of documents at a usage. You have to understand it is a light duty shredder. If you put in about half of the capacity of documents into the chute each time and add light oil to the cutting teeth, every once in a whiled, you will not have any problems with the machine. I have used this one for about a year now and am satisfied with the product. I would recommend this to someone else if they follow the instructions above.

Good crosscut shredder, but not confetti cut
This HD1400MX is overall a good crosscut shredder and the 2nd in 10 years that I've had. The original, with the same exact model #, was a confetti style of crosscut, so I ordered this one assuming it was too, but alas, it is not. It crosscuts into long, 1.5" strip that could easily be read if you don't shred the paper in the right direction.

Once shredded (and only once) Twice Shy
What a bunch of rubbish! Failed in use after only 7 minutes in Service, now i can't get the Merchant or the Warranty Service to pick up their phones. Amazon should be ashamed to offer this useless rubbish of their website. PS - i am no shredder mechanic or expert but to my eye the motor drive and the shredder mechanism are disconnected and it makes an awful racket. Won't advance or withdraw paper. {addendum: I have since had the thing apart to see if i could attempt repair. I'm going to preface what i report by saying this is how it appeared to me upon inspection, no desire for legal issues. (1) Massively powerful electric motor, check, (2) massively well built jaws for shredding. check. (3) the gears on the shred jaws are metal. (4) the drive gears taking power from the motor to the shred jaws are plastic... a sufficiently soft polymer that if the shred jaws lock up, the polymer gears simply tear their own cogs off against their metal gear counterparts. Instant & permanent failure, and by three phillips-head screws that seem to be threaded in nwithsuperglue..a neophyte cannot get at the parts to physically address repairs. Instant failure and PLANNED obsolescence.A failure in engineering 101, not to mention commonsense. It's simply NOT SAFE to drive metal gears with a polymer-geared drive. What was it Nader said 'unsafe at any speed?' Yes well i know how he felt. SAD SAD Sad - please i BEG you, don't fall into the same trap as i have here.
