After trying TOBS, Art of Shaving and Lather & Wood products, this is by far the best.I took a chance on this product and let me tell you, this stuff is AMAZING. Whips into a great lather fairly quickly. The tub is a lot bigger than I anticipated and can easily see this behemoth lasting me 6 months, maybe more. The scent is very masculine, very clean and I think it's just right. I shaved last night and this morning (8 hours later) I can still smell it. To me, that's perfect because it smells incredible. I didn't know what to expect before this purchase mind you, but has a very manly smell to it.In the picture below, you can see for yourself how beautiful the lather is. Believe it or not I only used as much as the tip of my finger to create that lather, and there was still a lot left in the bowl when I was done (not pictured). Provides such a smooth shave, great lubrication and after 3 passes of the razor (with the grain, across the grain and against the grain) I have zero irritation or razor burn.While this stuff IS more expensive that the $2 can of foam or gel; there is a reason why. Along with a shaving brush and quality razor, good shaving cream is a must in my book. Immediately upon my first use I could tell the difference on my skin. Don't underestimate the power of those UN-pronounceable chemicals in the cheap stuff to wreak havoc on tender face skin. Gives you a great base to shave and leaves your skin smelling awesome!If you are hesitating whether or not to spend the money on this, stop hesitating and give your skin what it deserves. My wife loves the smell, not too strong, and has a subtleness to it. A great all around shaving cream. Try it, you won’t regret it!

Something had to go wrong with this product during shipment. See the photos of what arrived... this is a brand new container, never used. It was full of huge air pockets and at the bottom there was a gaping air hole. The jar was upside down in the product box; i don't know if that had anything to do with all condition of the shaving soap when it arrived. I felt cheated, paying full price for a jar that was only half full. I tried reaching out to the company via their website before posting this review, but they never replied to me.As to the quality of the shaving soap... I've used it 3 or 4 times thus far and have yet to get a thick, rich lather. But this might be me more than the soap; I'm using a new cup and it's a bit small to work the soap as I normally do. On the other hand, maybe it's due to the bizarre condition of the soap in the jar. On the skin, the soap is very tingly, which was not what I expected. I have very sensitive skin so I don't care for this, but the after shave balm does a great job of calming the skin. The scent (sandlewood) is fantastic, no complaints on that.In contrast to my experience with the shaving soap, I've been very happy with the after shave balm. And the scent stays with you throughout the day. My wife says it's nice and not too strong. So 5 stars for the balm.

A good product, but rather expensive and not nearly as refined as some of the competition. You need a basis of comparison to fully appreciate these comments.Specifically, this product does not transform from paste to soap quite as easily as compared to Old Bond Street shaving soap. It results in paste either stuck to the soap bowl, or picked up by my badger brush as clumps.Old Bond Street soap slowly thickens while on your face and does not run off like American Shaving soap.In addition, Amazon sells American Saving soap for $4.25/ounce while the better Old Bond Street soap sells for $3.01/ounce.I am still attempting to find better shaving soap than Old Bond Street, as it tends to dry quickly on your face when not enough drops of water are added to my bowl.

I did not know what to expect with this product. I have tried the sandalwood aftershave and it was okay. The scent isn't what I expected, but it works. I read reviews about the original aftershave cream, and it's scent, so when I saw they now make a shaving cream, I decided to try out the original scent to decide if I liked it or not. I figured if I didn't like it, at least I have shaving cream to use and can cover the scent up. Not only did I enjoy the scent, the lather is... WOW! I don't have to use a lot and the lather adds another level of lubrication and best of all, it cleans up real well. Some shaving creams I have used in the past either have little to no lubrication, but clean up well after and don't leave a film; or they will offer good lubrication, but feel like they leave a film on my face after which makes it feel oily. This shaving cream seems to be the best of both all worlds. It's important for me to have good lubrication with a wet shave as I use a DE Razor to shave with. Without the lubrication, I get razor burn and it's not fun. Now I will be ordering the aftershave to compliment the scent further. Great job American Shaving Co. I may be a lifetime user of your product.

I recently received the Sandalwood shaving cream as well as the Sandalwood after shave balm.I use a badger brush to lather the cream in the palm of my hand and was very pleased with the consistency of the lather.I'm in the military so I must shave every day of the week which can lead to some irritated skin, but this shaving cream is very gentle and creates a smooth shave. I finish off with the after shave balm and it's fantastic.My first day with both products I had to figure out the amount of each product to use. Way too much shaving cream on the brush and way way too much balm on my hands, but by day two I had the amounts dialed in.Sandalwood is my all time favorite scent and these products smell great. Bear in mind this is the more earthy Sandalwood, not the sweeter version, but perfect for getting the true Sandalwood effect. Very earthy, very masculine and the scent stays with me for most of the day without ever being overpowering.Very pleased so far!
