A good way to try durian
I have never had actual durian fruit before, but I love trying new foods. I used this candy as a sort of test. I now understand why many people are disgusted by it, and also why many people adore it. It really is both at the same time. The taste is unlike anything else and it's impossible to make a comparison. Personally, I really enjoy this candy. It's addictive. I also gave it to a Chinese friend who grew up in the Philippines to see what she thought of it. She's eaten the actual fruit, so I asked her how the candy compares to the fruit. She says the candy is sweeter and she could taste the coconut milk. The candy also doesn't smell nearly as strong as the real fruit. You could enjoy the candy on an airplane, without the Captain making an emergency landing to drag you off the plane. The same can't be said for the fruit which is banned in most public places. I have went on to try another durian product on Amazon.... the banh with salted egg yolk which is also very good - if you like the taste of durian. My plan is to get accustomed to the flavor and aroma of durian through other products before trying the fresh fruit at its most stinkiest. If you love durian, you will like this product. If you are unsure, this is a cheap way to find out. That being said, durian is definitely NOT for everyone. It's something that you will either love or hate, there is nothing in between.

Very Strong funky durian
This one taste like a strong creamy blue cheese. Not a lot of fruit taste. Smell is very strange, but i think that's just the packaging? Overall, not bad, but not the best ------------ Update: I tried a second one. After knowing what to expect, these taste great if you like funky, cheesy, and oniony durian. The fruit does come through. *WARNING ALSO* - YOUR BREATHE WILL STINK LIKE DURIAN These are STRONG SMELLING

Ghastly
Based on most of the other reviews, this candy is wonderful if you like durians. I had never tried one before, so I cannot personally judge how this tastes against the real fruit. To my palate, though, it was awful and made me feel gross for hours after I tasted it. It tasted like sweet caramel and spoiled onions, and smelled like rotten garbage. There was no joy for me in this candy. I've shared them (with a warning beforehand) with some family and they all hated it as much as I did. I may give it to teenagers at Hallowe'en but will probably just toss the bag. It was an interesting experience, but I never want to taste anything like it again.

As I was walking out of the restaurant the worst smell of my life permeated the lobby
I was in Singapore this year and ate one night in Chinatown. As I was walking out of the restaurant the worst smell of my life permeated the lobby. Once out in the alley way I discovered it was a Durian cart vendor. The closest smell has to be standing about two feet from an open sewer pit. Durian smells that bad to me. Another street vendor selling Chinese candy had Durian hard candy for sell. Each piece of candy is sealed. I then flew to Stavanger, Norway to meet a vendor. Norwegians I thought were in a class of their own with awful candy. They like Dundersalt which is ammonia, sugar and salt made into hard candy. Dundersalt is bad however several of the Norwegians tried Durian candy and immediately sprit it out proclaiming it was the worst thing they ever tried. Once back in the USA I gave it to several coworkers, most spit it out immediately one poor lady threw up. My kids who were al excited because dad had brought candy home from Singapore tried the candy and all spit it out. The Durian candy has exceed my expectations as the worst candy in the world. I am writing the review to let you know if you grew up eating Durian I have no doubt it is truly the "King of Fruits" to you it is mothers milk. For me and my wife we will give this out on Halloween to all the teenagers who are Trick or Treating. This is the perfect candy Halloween it is truly awful tasting as will make a good trick. I do recommend this product as one heck of a trick.

A bit pricey
I bought a bag of these to add to this year’s Halloween candy as a “trick” for the trick-or-treaters. It cost me around $20 after all the various fees and the quantity isn’t very large. The taste is as I expected. It’s durian. For me, that equates to a taste similar to a creamy hard toffee that’s been mixed with raw onions or garlic. Oddly enough, I think it starts tasting better the longer I suck on it. It’s perfect for pranks! just wish it hadn’t been so expensive.

Pretty good, but be aware
This is good, but be aware that durian is a very love or hate kind of flavor. To some people this would probably taste nauseating. To me personally, think a very sweet yellow tropical fruit with the added flavor of something rotting. It's not something easy for me to describe but I personally enjoy it. Although I'd honestly rather have a cherry or strawberry flavored candy in most cases if taste was all that cared about. Durian is an experience, and that's why I bought this candy. It's an exotic fruit and nothing really compares to it. Just be well aware that if you're picky with you flavors, you may find this candy to be pretty gross.
