Finger Strings: A Book of Cat's Cradles and String Figures

My 10 year old recently got into the basic Cat's Cradle and I bought this book for his 10th birthday this summer. He loves it! The really complicated ones can be tough to follow in the book, but he's been able to figure them all out (except one he had to look up how to do on youtube). The two strings that come with it are longer than your typical Cat's Cradle string, which is necessary for some of the more complicated configurations. As a side note, my son has anxiety and ADHD and this has been an incredibly soothing past time for him. He'll repeat his favorites when he's anxious or bored.

I used to love doing finger strings. It came with two strings but i know things get lost, i want a few at my house and i needed enough for all of the littles. This book had the best pics and easiest instructions.

A nice cats cradle book. My 9 year old saw it and begged for it so we got it for her and she couldn’t be happier. Some were difficult for her to learn but overall it was worth the purchase.

There are supposed to be two strings provided. It says right on the cover "includes two strings" but instead I got a gob of sticky stuff in the back of the book where I presume the strings were supposed to be. The book itself seems well written. I like that it's spiral bound so that it lays flat.

My daughter (7 years) has very much hooked onto this... and I really like how she can engage her little sister, adults and her own peers to play the finger strings. I remember doing it as a kid! It is also something that can travel-- bring the string and keep occupied anywhere. The book is laid out with very clear and easy pictures - and even better: stories and songs that go with the string that are easy to remember. My 4 year old likes to copy the stories... It is always amazing to remember and feel the beauty of storytelling with movements.

My kids are Waldorf (Wikipedia that) schooled, so this is the perfect project for them. They love making the different things from their strings, they work together on them (they are 7 and 10) and help each other do them. Especially the older one helping the younger one get her fingers in the right position to pull off the more complicated items. One of the best purchases I've ever made for them. Stop letting your kids play video games and give them something do in the real world.

The 8 year old girl I got this for is very smart and I thought she would love to learn how to do this. She is still learning how to do some of them but she wants to learn all by her self. It has very good directions on how to do them.

The cat's cradle bug hit our school and my (just) 11 year old wanted to learn more. I bought this one based on reviews of being too difficult for younger children, with the Klutz version ideal for younger children. We hoped this would be detailed and thorough, and it is perfect. The Cat's Cradle part is a small section really and I had no idea there were more totally amazing things that could be achieved with string. My daughter is now telling us stories with the string! The string can be made into a scissor shape, a witches broom, a flapping fish, a star, a butterfly, a birthday cake with candles which blow out and other totally amazing configurations. She stands in my bedroom doorway at night and just starts a story while making the (very good) shapes with the string and it is very entertaining. We are now far beyond simple cat's cradle. I am totally impressed. Not for younger children though. My 8 year old can't follow the directions. My 11 year old easily can.

This product clearly states on the cover that it includes two strings. Sadly, the strings were not included, which is what the whole book is based upon!

Some of these are easy, some of them take more work but they are all good fun. There are a lot of string games in this book!
