Very good, clean gain
Good increase of gain, very low noise.

Super handy for noisy or older preamps, or low output mics
Dont buy the cheap knock-offs get this instead! It actually works great on my Zoom H6 recorder in lowering the noise floor on dynamic mics. You can also use this on old ribbon mics. I've used this on 57s, beta57a's, k669D and it does the job. Does very, very slightly colour the sound (all FETs do) but not in any unpleasant way.

Holy damn that sounds better. Took away some of the noise I was getting from my SM57 too, sounds amazing. Had to plug it directly into the mic, otherwise if I plugged it into my Motu M2 (Which doesnt have enough gain..) it would just amplify the noise, but straight into the mic it's reduced a lot of noise and it sounds better. I'm maybe about 60-70% on the gain now too, whereas before I was 100% and still too quiet. Massive improvement. Using voicemeeter for further settings and I've gotten it to sound pretty professional now.

A must buy with SM7B
It was between this and a cloudlifter for my SM7B and I decided to go with this, and its perfect. Low noise but helps with the gain, lightweight and small. Its easy to carry when moving around. Worth every penny

Terrible for Ribbon Mics
Used with DAV preamps the Triton Fethead sounds terrible. Granted, it adds a boat load of very clean gain but it also gives the effect of a duvet being draped over your studio monitors and really robs the top end of a ribbon mic, which let's face it doesn't have much to start with. DAV preamps are rated for 10kOhms input and the fethead is input rated 3kOhms impedance. Nowhere near enough for ribbon mics. I'm sure it will be great for something like a Shure SM7b but for ribbons i'd definitely avoid!

Sloppily playing games with the truth
The 1 star review is due to the inaccuracy by this seller in portraying what you are actually buying and not the product you will receive, which i’d say is at least 5 stars, if you look at the pictures alone. It is clearly that of the PHANTOM version of this Fathead which is NOT what you are buying here. If you read between the lines, then you will realise, as I did, that the picture of the item you are buying is false. There are two versions of Triton's Fethead inline mic preamplifier. One being for dynamic microphones (27db of gain) which blocks the phantom power required for condenser microphones which will also protect ribbon microphones from damage to the point of damaging them to the point of no longer being functional (this is the version I received and is reflected in the product information in the listing) and the other called the Triton Fethead PHANTOM (18db gain) which passes the phantom power required by most condenser microphones to enable them to work. The picture though shows the phantom power version of Triton’s Fethead which passes through the phantom power to enable 48volts DC (12/24/48, most commonly 48VDC) to reach those condenser microphones that require that power to operate and will likely destroy sensitive microphones like the popular Royer 121 (at around £1500) no longer usable. (*note. Triton also sell a Phantom blocker for those wanting to protect those high investment microphones). Though the 48vdc voltage will unlikely damage pretty much all dynamic mics (i've been a sound engineer for over 30 years and have never destroyed a dynamic mic with phantom power), it is not a good idea to use phantom power (48vdc) with anything other than what requires it IF you have the opportunity to turn it off. Especially when unplugging or plugging in any microphone with phantom power on. If you purely relied on the pictures alone, then you will not be able to use condenser microphones which are as common these days as dynamic microphones., if not more common. And this will not be your fault if you chose to look at the pictures alone which clearly show a different product than you will receive. Again, not your fault… We can only be thankful that this seller is not selling a dynamic only (blocking DC voltage) but actually supplying us with a pass through VDC voltage that can destroy some of the most sensitive and expensive microphones on the planet. The PHANTOM version they show in their pictures is available separately and if you also own ribbon microphones then you can buy a phantom blocker from the same company and keep that permanently plugged in to those microphones. Even the non-phantom version requires phantom power so if you make the mistake of turning that on without knowing better then you should probably not own expensive ribbon microphones in the firsts place, nor trust poorly portrayed listings anywhere on the internet.

Beware, inconsistent listing info
Beware, description of item and picture are not aligned. In my case I received the Fethead Phantom as shown in the picture. These are not safe for use with ribbon mics as said in the description.

working only on the side of the mic
My setup is: RE20 SSL 2 1.5 METER XLR Cable When I connect it like this: SSL2=>CABLE=>FETHEAD=>RE20 - It's working. When I connect it like this: SSL2=>FETHEAD=>CABLE=>RE20 - It's NOT working. - I saw on some YouTube videos that it's working on the first setup I mentioned - but not for me. - I can't really move my mic arm with this - I'm using Elgato low profile arm. - Also I have the look of this. I will most likely live without a gain booster, or I will order some point the CloudLifter. I know that my soundcard has good pre-amps, but I wanted that extra gain boost just to make sure.

Pierwsze próby wypadły pomyślnie. Zoom H5 ma słaby przedwzmacniacz i w zestawieniu z SM7B generuje duże szumy. Bez Fetheada gain na wejściu rejestratora musi być ustawiony na 7-8. PO podłączeniu Fetheada między 4 a 5. Dodatkowa zaleta, to możliwość wpięcia go bezpośrednio do wejścia XLR Zooma. Wpi ęcie do mikrofonu zawieszonego na ramieniu jest kłopotliwe i wymaga przedłużki. W konfiguracji z krótkim kablerm XLR ( około 1,5 m) nie zauważyłem, żeby Fethead wzmacniał szumy przewodu. Wcześniej miałem Klark Teknik CT-1 i uważam, że był wykonany gorzej. Fethead jest robiony w Holandii i w cenie Amazona naprawdę warto go kupić. Jedną gwiazdkę odejmuję mimo wszystko za cenę!

Lo compré para mi microfono Sure SM7B y me ha venido genial. Mi interfaz USB de Steinberg se quedaba corto como preamplificador para este microfono y el Fethead funciona de manera excelente para añadir la ganancia requerida de manera limpia sin capturar ruido. Comprar otro interfaz bastante mas potente tecnicamente hubiera sido la mejor opción pero hubiera sido mucho más caro, no obstante el Fethead me proporciona casi el mismo resultado (casi no añade nada de ruido) y me resultó mucho mas barato. Además es pequeño y sencillo de instalar (simplemente conectarlo al cable XLR entre el interfaz y el microfono). Llevo un par de meses usandolo y estoy encantado, ya que el resultado es más que satisfactorio. Lo recomiendo! PROS: - Mas barato que comprar otro interfaz o preamplificador mas potente - Apenas añade nada de ruido con el incremento de ganancia que aporta - Muy pequeño y fácil de instalar (optimo si te vas desplazar con equipamiento mínimo) CONS: - Un preamplificador o interfaz diseñado para microfonos como el Shure SM7B proprcionaría una experiencia un poco o ligeramente mejor (aunque esto sería bastante más caro que el Fethead)

I love this little thing so much. It works with every single one of my phantom powered microphones, and it seems to boost the quality, by providing better amplification than the preamps built into my zoom H4 essential recorder. So not only do you raise the volume, but you also give a lot more separation between the audio and the noise floor. I put the inline amplifier right by the microphone, and then have the cable running to the mixer or recorder. This way it boosts the signal before it is transmitted and is less likely to pick up noise . This thing works really well, and I will buy more as I need them for my ever expanding setup. Highly recommend to anyone looking to improve their existing microphones and recording setup.

Le da mucha potencia claridad y cuerpo al sonido lo utilizo con un Rohde Nt1a y una tarjeta audient Id 14 y suena fantástico

The Triton Audio FetHead works very well with mics, which require more oomph. Most importantly, it is quiet and colourless. I purchased two of them and use both units with my ribbon mics. Pure sound, professional quality.
