Works as a minimal muzzle to keep them from eating at stuff.
It's not horribly sturdy, but it's pretty close to what I wanted! I wanted a more minimal muzzle - had fewer straps and allowed him to more fully open his mouth for breathing (biting's not a big problem). The box kinds were just too "beefy" and he has a long snout so this shape is better. This is kind of loose but keeps him from eating stuff on the ground. It's even long enough to allow me to drop a small treat in front of his nose (somewhat carefully) to reward him, but when I didn't have it tight enough, he did get out of it. I also liked that I could get a light color that blends with his coat more so it doesn't stand out quite so much on walks. I do think it's going to wear out around the nose fairly quickly because it's already dirty from him sniffing through it all the time. It's made of water-resistant mesh, so it's expected. It's there, it works, it keeps him from getting into stuff, but it doesn't look as "scary" as others.

wonderful
So far so good after 3 days of use! I only use it while walking, as it prevents her from obsessive scavenging while going out on walks. It's soft mesh, very unobtrusive and extremely quick and easy to put on (slide on under mouth, nose slides in, clip on around neck). I can't talk about durability yet, as I've only used a short time and have yet to wash it, but based on the price, it wouldn't hurt to get a few extras. I use the harness over her transitional sidekick leash (similar to a gentle leader) and it works great. For reference, my ordered a size Small for my 22 pound mixed dog.

My Dog Is Too Smart for This
I have two rescue labs, one of which I got as an adult and so wasn't able to train since she was a puppy like my other dog. She was also a stray before I rescued her, so she has a habit of eating anything she comes across and will not drop upon command, so I've had to pry her jaws apart to remove bones, napkins, dead crabs, you name it. I eventually realized she would need a muzzle till she's learned to drop things she really wants to eat.I gradually introduced the muzzle as suggested (the advice is very good) and she doesn't exactly like wearing it, but she tolerates it. She does find it frustrating that she cannot eat anything she comes across anymore, but she'll still try and so the front of the muzzle is always nasty. Moreover, she recently figured out how to use the muzzle to scoop up trash so it drops into the front of part where she can eat it. She even managed to pick up a huge crab at the beach by one leg with this muzzle on. She wasn't able to eat the crab, but with smaller items, she can.I wash the muzzle almost every time it's used but the mesh still stinks. I'm trying a different style muzzle made of silicone that won't allow her to scoop up trash and eat it and will be easier to keep clean. Hopefully she won't be too smart for that one too.

Finally something that works well.
11/22/2022 - the dogs eventually did learn to drink through the mesh so it is definitely possible for them to figure it out after many tries and over a few months. I think that if we used these daily, it would have been a lot faster. I upgraded this item to 5 stars. It did work as advertised eventually with a steep learning curve for older dogs. Finally something that works well partially anyway...If you're looking for something your dog can drink through, keep searching, this is not it, even though it says it is.Two of my dogs are highly reactive, getting worse as they are getting older (9 and 10 years old) and they displace their aggression toward each other when they cannot get to the dog, cat, plastic bag or leaf that had the audacity of showing up in their field of vision. That means no walking them together, no keeping them in the same room when I am not home, constant supervision when they are together in the yard etc...I had given up on finding a muzzle until their last fight broke my finger and sent their blood flying all over my room, I still don't know what started it, it was 4 AM and everyone should have been asleep. These just seemed more humane and easier to deal with and THEY ARE!!One dog has a very long muzzle so he got the large, the other pointy but shorter muzzle so he got the medium. This is a slip on and buckle behind the ears muzzle made of breathable mesh which is ideal for Florida weather. There is no hard rubber to irritate them, nothing that will hurt if they bang their head and best of all, no matter how hard they try, they can't remove it but let it be known that they got used to it in minutes, just drop a really delicious small treat in the whole and praise them for keeping it on.We went for a ride in the car, one dog trampled the other and what would have normally escalated into a blood bath to the death ended up with no reaction because I think they quickly realized that even growling was pointless. Of course, they got high praise for not getting unruly and we went on our ride. What was surprising is that once we got home, they didn't attempt to have them taken off until they tried to get water and that just doesn't work. There is no way for them to stick their tongue out to get a drink. It might be possible for them to plunge their whole snout into a bowl of water but if they don't do it naturally, I won't be forcing it and this will stay at a personal rating of 4.2 because they cannot drink through it naturally.
