No, can't scroll through contacts and make calls. You can answer calls incoming or initiate a voice assistant to make a call to contact if phone and buds support it.

Q: Does this watch mark or burn wrist? Ive just had to return another make because of this

I guess it depends how tight/loose you wear it. I’ve had some marking on the forerunner before where it’s got to hot on my wrist however for this one it’s been fine and has never done it. I’ve read elsewhere it may also be to the material the strap is made of and your skin might be having an allergic reaction to it. On the Garmin for instance when I replace the strap the burns stopped

Q: How long does the battery last when using gps for long periods of time, say a 12 hour hike? would it last?

I would say it will drain quicker. I use it for 2.5 hours and lose about 10% without using music on it. However should last 12 hrs I would think.
